Afla Sackey & Afrikbawantu – afrojazz, funk, afrobeat fusion

Afla Sackey & Afrikbawantu

Afla Sackey & Afrikbawantu have been bewitching audiences with Sackey’s musical creations since the band was formed in 2006. Vibrant percussion from Afla’s Ghanaian roots, accompanied by high powered bass lines and roaring brass combine to create an afrojazz / funk / afrobeat fusion with an energy that drives audiences to dance floors.
Band members are from all corners of the world: Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Congo, Italy and England.  Their debut album ‘Life on the Street’ was released in September 2014. Afrik Bawantu’s original compositions blend highlife from West Africa with funk and rock genres, enhancing their cross-cultural collaboration between members, with talkative percussions and the uplifting rhythm section in harmony with funky horns and the guitar creating a truly ecstatic sound.

Afla was brought to London by the promoter of the Kakatsitsi Master Drummers of Ghana and has since thoroughly involved himself in the UK music scene.
